Defining My Practice.
Artwork & Poetry
Here you’ll find my current body of work — paintings and poems that speak in the visual and conceptual language I’ve been developing in recent years.
These works are layered, atmospheric, and questioning: they don’t offer answers, but open space for reflection.
My earlier series and explorations are gathered under “Artistic Journey,” showing how my practice has evolved over time.
Explore My Current Work
Before the brush,
there’s the digging.
Process.
Thinking, finding,
reading, writing,
checking, changing.
Do I care enough to do this?
Bang.
We inhabit challenging times.
I don’t paint to decorate space.
I paint questions—
to ask,
to provoke,
to invoke.
Burns and churns,
exposed.
I don’t fling paint.
Journeys are imagined.
Bold colours contrast.
Layers build texture
and depth.
I add me.
So, linger a little longer,
dig a little deeper.
Let the art speak.
A flicker of hope?
I open a door.
Run through.
When my work sparks thought,
I am happy.
When it provokes some disdain,
that’s all good.
When it stirs instinct,
awareness dawns.
Conscience.
Bang.
My work works.
Pop.
Uncork the Champagne.
Repeat.

About Me
Layering Responsibility with Reflection -
An invitation to Look Again.
I am an abstract and conceptual artist based in the Tamar Valley, Devon. My work begins with a question rather than an image. A spark — social, environmental, psychological, or ethical — leads me into research, reflection, and often writing before paint is ever applied.
For over thirty years I ran my own company in IT and design, alongside long-term voluntary work in mental health, environmental and social contexts. These parallel experiences shaped how I think: carefully, critically, and with an awareness that choices — and inaction — have consequences. That foundation carries directly into my practice.

My paintings are not illustrations of ideas, but considered responses to them. I work slowly, layering material, texture, and form to hold complexity rather than simplify it. Some works are restrained, others more forceful, but all are intended to create space for reflection rather than deliver answers.
Language — poetry, fragments, or written thought — sometimes runs alongside the visual work. When it does, it exists in dialogue, not explanation. Each element can stand alone, but together they invite a deeper pause.
I am interested in what we notice, what we overlook, and how meaning emerges over time. My work does not instruct. It asks. And it invites the viewer to stay with uncertainty long enough for something to shift.
What others say: "Great poetry and the art really makes sense when viewed next to the moving words.” | “Very inspirational! Particularly love the dark, atmospheric paintings. Your poetry is highly thought-provoking.” | “An honest reflection of your capacity to care.”
